In September 2024, I joined FUN as their rhythm guitarist — a band that has been rocking the hits of the 60s for over 40 years. No pressure, right?
A Different World
I’ll be honest: when I first started, this wasn’t exactly my comfort zone. My musical background was rooted in different genres, and suddenly I was diving deep into the world of the Beatles, the Stones, the Beach Boys, and all the other legends of the Minirock generation. The style, the feel, the energy — it was all new to me.
But that’s exactly what made it exciting. The more I played, the more I fell in love with it. There’s a reason this music has survived for over 60 years — it just hits different when you’re playing it live in front of a crowd that knows every single word.
A Family Affair
One of the best parts? I get to share the stage with my father, who plays keys in the band. Music has always been a family thing for us — from his choir where I first started singing, to his home studio where I learned about producing — but performing together in a live band is something else entirely. It’s one of those things I didn’t know I needed until it happened.
What I’ve Learned
Joining FUN pushed me to grow as a guitarist in ways I didn’t expect. Playing rhythm guitar in a tight live band is its own discipline — it’s not about flashy solos, it’s about groove, timing, and serving the song. I’ve learned a lot in a relatively short time, and I’m still learning with every gig.
