Sometimes a band name writes itself. Take the first few letters of Tobi and Raphael, mash them together, and you get Trophy. Creative? Maybe not. Memorable? Definitely.
How It Started
Tobi and I first met in my father’s choir, where we spent our time singing gospel and whatever else was thrown at us. Somewhere between harmonizing on Sunday mornings, we realized we actually sounded pretty good together. But it wasn’t until after we both graduated school that we thought: why not take this on the road?
Weddings, Birthdays, and Beyond
We started where every acoustic duo starts — weddings. There’s something special about providing the soundtrack to someone’s biggest day, and we quickly got hooked. Over time, word spread and the gigs grew. Today, weddings are still a big part of what we do, but we’ve expanded into birthdays, private parties, and pretty much any event where people want live music and a good time.
Going Big(ger)
The real surprise was when Trophy started playing larger events. We’ve performed several times at the CSD in Krefeld and at Labor Day celebrations — also in Krefeld — in front of crowds of up to a couple thousand people. Quite the jump from intimate wedding ceremonies, but honestly, we love both ends of the spectrum.
What’s Next
Beyond the live gigs, we’re also working on our own original music. It’s still in the making, but after years of playing other people’s songs, it feels like the right time to put something of our own out there.
